Overview

Shoulder arthritis causes deep, constant pain and progressive stiffness that eventually disturbs sleep. An anatomic replacement addresses both, provided the rotator cuff is intact.

Planning is done on a CT scan so that the socket component is positioned accurately — the single most important technical factor in long-term implant survival.

Questions & Answers

How long does a shoulder replacement last?
The great majority are functioning well at ten to fifteen years, and modern planning is expected to improve that further.
Will I regain full motion?
Most patients regain the motion needed for daily life and considerably more comfort. Pre-operative stiffness influences the final range.
Anatomic or reverse?
Anatomic replacement needs an intact rotator cuff. If the cuff is torn or deficient, a reverse replacement is the correct option.
When can I drive?
Usually four to six weeks, once out of the sling with confident control of the wheel.
What sport is allowed?
Swimming, golf and cycling yes; heavy lifting and contact sport are discouraged.
Is it very painful?
A nerve block and modern protocols keep the first days manageable, and pain then improves week by week.
