يحدث الانحشار حين تنضغط أوتار الكفة المدوّرة في الحيّز الضيق بين أعلى عظم العضد والقوس العظمي للوح الكتف (الأخرم). فكلما رفعت ذراعك ضاق ذلك الحيّز، وإذا كان ضيقًا أكثر من اللازم انحشرت الأوتار والتهبت.

What is the difference between shoulder impingement and a rotator cuff tear?

Shoulder impingement occurs when rotator cuff tendons and the subacromial bursa are compressed or rubbed against the acromion bone during overhead movement, causing swelling and pain. A rotator cuff tear means the tendon tissue itself is partially or completely severed. Chronic, untreated impingement can eventually wear down the tendon and lead to a tear.

How long does recovery take, and when can I resume overhead activities?

Following arthroscopic decompression, recovery is relatively fast: full range of motion is typically restored within 2 to 4 weeks, with a complete return to overhead sports, heavy lifting, and routine activities achieved within 2 to 3 months.

Are cortisone or PRP injections effective for subacromial bursitis?

Subacromial cortisone injections provide rapid and powerful relief by suppressing acute bursal inflammation and reducing tissue thickness, breaking the cycle of impingement to allow effective physical therapy. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) can be utilized in chronic tendinopathy cases to promote biological healing of irritated tendon fibers.

Can shoulder impingement syndrome be cured without surgery?

Yes, over 85% of impingement and bursitis cases improve significantly with non-surgical management.
